Bing Webmaster Tools API Down For Over 5 Days

Mike Sullivan noticed that the Bing Webmaster API has been down for over five days now. I had him share a screen shot with me of it failing and he did so. In short, he was surprised to see no one complaining even after five days of it being offline. Mike said on Twitter “Bing Webmaster Tools API goes down for 5 days and no one notices? Sad…” Here is his screen shot where you can see the API throwing an error code when trying to get a list of…

Report: Google mobile speed update has no impact on general mobile rankings

The Google Speed update, which began rolling out on July 9, has reportedly so far had almost no impact on downgrading the ranking of mobile pages in the Google mobile search results in general. The SEO PowerSuite folks looked at about 33,500 keywords, 1 million pages of search results and the positions from one to number 30 before and after the update and have come to the conclusion that there was no change in ranking, even for many slow pages, a week after the Speed Update was released. They ran the…

More and more brands are using live streaming to reach their audience and promote their business. Search ad spending growth decelerated across the engines in Q2 2018, digital agency Merkle reported in its Q2 2018 Digital Marketing Report. After two strong quarters, the slower growth for Bing and Yahoo in Q2 came from lower CPCs for both Bing Product Ads and text ads. Google search ad spending grew 18 percent, while Bing and Yahoo search ads spending increased by 11 percent year over year. Mobile devices (phones and tablets) generated 60…

Rookie link-building and content outreach mistakes you won’t make twice

Link-building mistakes come with the territory: The longer you spend pitching webmasters, the more war stories and link failures you’ll have under your belt. I’ve done many, many linking campaigns and have made my share of mistakes.  Based on my experience, I am not sure which campaign was a bigger epic fail: The campaign where all the email I sent went to the trash folder because I used a term associated with spam in the subject line. The fact I launched a huge content campaign the same day Donald Trump…

How Much Should You Pay a Social Media Influencer to Promote Your Brand?

Some companies and marketers might still be wary about working with social media influencers, but there’s no denying it’s one of the most powerful marketing tactics today. The power of influence marketing stems from consumers’ eroding trust in brands. These days, the majority believe and rely on word-of-mouth reviews and recommendations. One Nielsen study revealed that this type of recommendation surpasses other types of advertising. As a matter of fact, 83% of Americans were found to trust endorsements from people they know while 66% believe in the opinions that fellow consumers…

Be careful what content you cut from your site

I recently worked with a client to relaunch their website, and as part of the process, the client chose to cull much of its content in an effort to have a leaner site. Having a lot of content on your site can make content management seem overwhelming, so it’s understandable an organization may want to cut down on the quantity of content to make the effort more manageable overall. However, be careful what you cut! All too often in organizations, the various stakeholders for the website work in disparate groups…

Is Snapchat trying its hand at eCommerce? Intent-based keyword research: Let Google be your guide

Whether paid or organic, when it comes to search marketing, keywords are king. Good keyword research is at the heart of any successful search marketing campaign, so it pays to get it right from the get-go. Good keyword research, however, isn’t just about search volume, competition level, suggested bids or any of the other metrics you see in a keyword research tool like Google’s keyword planner.
